Pets for
Adoption
... Adopt and SAVE a life! |
Please see our
Pets for Adoption for all the dogs, cats, birds and
other pets currently available for adoption. We get new listings
constantly, so please bookmark us and visit often! Petsonthenet
specialises in lost pets and pets for adoption, successfully
rehoming thousands of pets since 2002 from the public and
shelters into their forever homes. You can see some of our
recent
NZ Pet for Adoption Success Stories here.
Petsonthenet wants to be part of the solution - not part of the
problem, so we only allow ads for
Pets for Adoption, not Pets for Sale ((the only exception
being shelters and rescues i.e. SPCAs, pounds etc, who may
charge an adoption fee). This is part of our core philosophy of "Adopt, Don't Buy".
Adopt, don't buy!
If you or anyone you know is considering adding a pet to
their family, please don't "buy" a pet online or from a pet shop
etc. Instead, please consider adopting an animal in need
of a home via your local shelter or Petsonthenet first. Animals
that are not adopted within a certain time (seven days in some
shelters) may be euthanised. Heartbreakingly, thousands of
companion animals die this way every year - purely for lack of a
home.
We believe more pets are euthanised due to lack of homes when
backyard breeders keep breeding cute pups and kittens etc into
the world for the pet shop or online trade, for cash profits.
There is only a finite number of homes in NZ, which means some
animals will die...as supply simply exceeds demand.
Some petshops sell supposed
"purebreeds" and "designer dogs" often without supporting
registration/papers. Some of these animals may have inherited
health problems or defects which could mean costly vet bills for
you further down the track. If you are absolutely set on a
purebreed, be wise and contact a trusted registered breeder
directly such an NZKC registered breeder for dogs. Otherwise,
please save a life - adopt, don't buy...
PS
It is also critical to desex your pet, so the supply of unwanted
kittens and pups does not keep increasing. Many shelter pets are
desexed already, saving you money.
