Description

If Wally could talk he would have an interesting story to tell. Sadly his mum had a stroke 4 months ago and had to go into a
rest home, and unfortunately he couldn’t go with her. So her son “Chris” took over caring for Wally. He was asleep in
Chris' Ute at his work when the ute was stolen. We can only assume Wally was dumped soon after.

Sheena Douglas came to the rescue last Saturday when she saw this tiny scared little dog hanging around the corner of
Captain Springs Rd and Neilson St and took him home. Sheena posted his photo on the East Auckland Grapevine page to
spread the word. Sadly Sheena’s cats weren’t too impressed with the little dog, and she asked if anyone could look after
him while looking for his owner. I already have 2 Papillion’s so offered to look after him while we searched.

Between us we added his details to multiple Facebook pages, web pages, including Petsonthenet, we rang and emailed
various places to see if they new anything. In all there would have been in excess of over 200 shares on various
facebook pages alone.

Wally was terrified to start with, but after a bath and a feed, he settled in well and definitely took a fancy to Rabbit
(my brown and white dog) and followed her around everywhere. Wally is very deaf and almost blind and has very little
teeth left, but seemed to enjoy his holiday with 2 young girls to play with. I later found out he is 15yrs old.

Wally wasn’t micro chipped and didn’t have his collar on because he had just had a bath. Chris doesn’t used computers
and had rung the SPCA, pound and the police and thought they would never see Wally again, but after 6 days with us
he was finally going home.

Today I got a call from Kim (Petsonthenet) she had also called the SPCA and by sheer luck got the person that Chris
had talked to a week ago. The contact details could not be found but Siobhan at SPCA remembered the story. She said the dog was in a ute
stolen from outside a scrap metal yard in Onehunga. With a bit of detective work and several phone calls to Onehunga scrap merchants,
Kim found Chris the owner whose ute was stolen outside his work at the scrap metal yard on Saturday along with Wally and his tools.

At the same time Lisa, one of Suzanne’s nurses (another Lisa) at the rest home happened to look at Petsonthenet and
saw Wally and called me.

She broke the news to Susanne who cried at the good news. Chris rang me at work and we arranged for him to
collect Wally tonight. When I got home I had messages from Chris, his sister and Kim, all saying its WALLY.

Chris has been and picked him up, they were so happy to see each other and his mum is overjoyed to know Wally is
safe and sound. See the new photos. One of his mum nurses also rang me today, she said Susanne cried at the good
news and will be so happy that he's safe and well.

Great work by lots of people

So once again the power of the internet and lots of detective work ends in a wonderful success story for a four legged
fur baby.

This little guy was found on Saturday at the corner of Neilson St Onehunga and Captain Springs Rd.
He is quite old, appears to have cataracts (very cloudy eyes) missing lots of teeth and a bit deaf.
He's a lovely little dog and gets on well with my 2 papillons and the cat. Desperate to find his owner.
