SPCA Directory

Definitely phone the SPCA* (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) if you have lost or found a pet. Many SPCAs in New Zealand already contribute their "found" pet listings to petsonthenet.co.nz (some have since 2002!). To see our SPCA "found" lists, see our nationwide database for lost and found pets.

Pet Finders
Advise the SPCA as this is one of the first places an owner will search. The SPCA will also give information of where and how a lost pet can be handed over to them. See our Found Pets Advice page for more tips.

Pet Owners
Call and visit the SPCA and Animal Control / Pound every few days.
WARNING Most animal welfare organisations hold an animal for up to 7 days in "stray time". After stray time, healthy, suitable animals may then go up for re-homing. Depending on resources and their individual policies, some organisations may euthanise animals after 7 days, so it is critical to call regularly.
