Please
donate to help support the continuation of this free e-service for lost
and found pets + pets for adoption.
Pets on the Net relies on donations and
paid
ads from
pet related services
and retailers. We also get some income from sales of Ellenco pet medical insurance
and
ID tags.
The service is run totally by unpaid volunteers.
Administrator Kim puts in time seven days a week to
keep things running smoothly and Sharon spends
many hours uploading found pet details from the Auckland SPCA each day. Then there are about
80 other volunteers NZ
wide. The revenue we bring in needs to cover the costs
involved in bringing this service to you - hosting,
domain name, power, phone lines, internet access (up to 20 hours per
day!) software & programming, advertising
(so people know about us, which in turn helps you), stationery, printing,
postage, accounting (you name it, the list of
bills goes on..!).
Donations help us to continue. For example in 2009
we upgraded our hardware and software as it was not
coping.
We're always saving for the next upgrade, knowing it
will be about $4000 every 2-3 years to keep it all
current and functional. Our most recent "project"
was a (fourth!) major upgrade to our lost and
found database. Another upgrade is due mid 2010. |

Consider that it costs about $20.00 to advertise for one day
in a local newspaper for a lost pet...you get a few lines and no photo at
that price (yes you do still need to advertise there too though!)
On the other hand petsonthenet.co.nz delivers your 300 word ad and
up to three
colour photos nationwide for as long as you want,
for FREE. We also offer personal service, support, advice, checklists, free online searching,
SPCA found pet listings etc....No 0900 numbers here..!
Morally, we have always felt this service should be free to help you if you and
your pet are in need of our help. We didn't want to "kick you when you're
down" like the old lost pet 0900 services used to do before our
service killed them off ($16 for
four fairly useless minutes, information that was available free by
phone from the local SPCA anyway...). Nor will we charge you to place an ad
with us for your lost (or found) pet. We have taken it to the next step,
meaning you can check this free information online anytime AND post free ads.
Pets on the Net is open 24/7 to all
people to share this information - the public, SPCA's, pounds, shelters,
vets, even pet shops get lost pets handed in and
therefore we are close as possible to 100% comprehensive.
To maintain this comprehensiveness means continuing our commitment
to be free for lost and found pets. Many people have told us we are mad not to be charging for this
service, as we could make lots of money, but we refuse to budge on
this core value.
On the other hand petsonthenet.co.nz is by
no means free to run! It takes a lot of money and it takes many
people a huge amount of unpaid time. So, if you have appreciated our service and
if you are able to please give us any donation, it
will certainly find a very good home in helping us to continue and improve this
free service.
Even $5.00 helps!
Thanks and purrs for your support in any way.
