Offensive content
Offensive content will not be tolerated by petsonthenet.co.nz. As visitors are responsible for posting their own lost or found ads directly on the site, it is impossible for us to check every ad posted immediately for appropriateness. Should you find an ad that is inappropriate or offensive in any way, whether it is the text or the photo, please email us now on mail@petsonthenet.co.nz and we will remove the ad in it's entirety. We reserve the right to cancel without warning any ad placed on petsonthenet.co.nz that is considered offensive, inappropriate or is not directly related to the content of this site.

Grossly inappropriate or illegal material posted on the site will be passed onto the correct authority with all details we have of the person responsible ie) NZ Police for further investigation.

Privacy of your information
Pets on the Net will not under any circumstances divulge your name, address or email address to any other party. We will never give, sell, swap or otherwise distribute your information including e-mail addresses to any other party. We will not send you unsolicited e-mails unrelated to the actual lost and found classified process. However where you agree and subscribe to join us, we will send you updates about this site from time to time as agreed.  As we offer a free service, we do rely on paid advertising to continue the service for free, so it is possible that our email updates may be sponsored by advertisers and may contain advertising from time to time, but your details wil never be passed to any of advertisers who "tag along" on our ezine. You may unsubscribe from this update service at any time.

Should you post material on our site that is considered to be grossly inappropriate/offensive or of an illegal nature we waive your right to privacy for the greater good of the decent and law abiding members of our  community and we will immediately forward your full details to the NZ Police or appopriate territorial authorites for further investigation.

Spam (unsolicited email) on Pets on the Net and Harvesting of email addresses/information from Pets on the Net
Unsolicited email through petsonthenet.co.nz to our advertisers, ads, message board, guest book partcipants etc, will not be tolerated. We ask anyone reciveing an inappropriate spam email to please forward it to us directly at mail@petsonthenet.co.nz. Do not reply or attempt to unsubscribe from any spam email, it just makes it worse!

Pets on the Net formally warns any person or company who emails any person on petsonthenet.co.nz in order to spam them or to promote their own company/product. Further action will be taken if we find more written proof of these activities continuuing.

Pets on the Net respects the privacy of your details and email address, please see "privacy of your information" above and also our "offensive content policy".

Your security on the internet

We strongly suggest that you do not put your full name, full address (street address is enough) on the ad you post on the internet. A first name is sufficient. Be careful of putting too much personal information on your ad ie) "Not home in the mornings so always call afternoons", "Single lady has lost dearly loved cat". It is OK to put "loved family pet" or "toddler misses dog", but don't be specific ie) do not include children's names or ages.

The software we use will protect the privacy of your e-mail address details from site visitors. Instead of displaying your e-mail for all the world (and all the spammers to see) a hyperlink saying "click here to reply" will appear to all visitors to the your ad.

Rewards
Pets on the Net is not liable for payment of any reward offered by the owner,  nor any "finders fee" claimed by a finder. If a finder suggests a "finders fee", attempt to get a name and address where your pet is to be picked up and call the police - this is illegal and tantamount to blackmail. On the other hand If you decide to give a small reward, that's up to you.

(If you want to give petsonthenet.co.nz a small reward for our part in your success, we gratefully accept! We will use any such rewards/donations to further promote the site, so more people will be able to learn about/use our free service.)

If the finder has spent money on vet care or food for you pet, you as the owner are responsible for repayment/reimbursement to the finder. Costs should be fair and reasonable and a receipt should be shown to you confirming any costs met by the finder. Pets on the Net is in no way responsible for any vet care, food, housing or damage done by pets in care of the finder.

Onus is on the Owner  IMPORTANT!
Petsonthenet is in no way responsible for matching lost pets with finders. Nor is this the finders responsibility. Sole responsibility to search found ads lies with the pet owner who should regularly check the site for any pets that might be theirs. Once a day is recommended as most animal welfare agencies hold strays for seven days before they rehome or euthanise animals.

Also while we do get the "incoming strays" list from the Auckland SPCA, we do not automatically get their "found book". This is the book where the SPCA writes pets that have been found by the public, but not handed to the SPCA yet. You need to call every few days to check the found book at the SPCA on 256 7300. Pets on the Net still saves you lots of phone time because you can search the SPCA database yourself online.

The SPCA's, pounds, vets, any animal welfare organisations etc are not responsible for checking petsonthenet.co.nz to see if the animal they have can be crossmatched to our lost ads. The sole responsibility is with the owner to do this. This would be an impossible and resource intensive task for any animal welfare agency, some dealing with in excess of 100 strays a day...we are grateful to those who do support this service by inputting their stray animals regularly onto our database. Please check with any animal welfare organisation in your area that may collect your pet, to see if they do input their "incoming strays" to this site, otherwise you will have to keep phoning them regularly (and ask them to consider using petsonthenet's free service to save you both time!).

Misinformation in Ads
Pets on the Net is in no way responsible for any misinformation or omission in any ad. For example a person may find a cat and misrepresent it as "brown" when it is a "tabby" meaning the owner may pass it over when searching. Like wise a finder may list a found dog as a "Pitbull" when it is in fact a "Staffie". Cross breeds can be hard to identify and we recommend you look at all possible variations when searching the database. We can only ask finders who place ads to put as much information as possible. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to follow up any ad that could possibly be your pet. Sometimes people even get the animals sex wrong - not all of us are vets, take all information with a grain of salt. The best way to identify your pet, is to add a free photo to your ad, a picture says a thousand words.

No Charge for Electronic Photo Uploads
Photos may be uploaded electronically (from your own computer) at no cost. Your photo should not exceed 50,000KB or 200 x 200 pixels for space reasons. All pictures electronically posted need to be in JPG or GIF format and should be of an appropriate nature. Any offensive photo, we may remove  (see our Offensive Content Policy).

Manual Photo Uploads
If you don't have a picture of your pet on your computer already or you can't scan it in yourself or through a friend/service with a scanner, we can scan it for you. We will scan the photo and then upload it on your behalf to your ad for $14.50. Please mail your photo/drawing and cheque to Pets on the Net, PO Box 16291, Sandringham, Auckland. We will return your your photo promptly.

Charges on this site
Please note that Pets on the Net never intends to charge finders of pets to add photos to their found pet ads. However to recoup costs on the amount of bandwidth required to publish lost photos, we reserve the right to possibly charge a small fee for lost pet ads with photos. After over 15 months of  operation we have absolutely no intention of making this change but reserve the right to do so if required to keep the site running financially. Until otherwise publicly advised on the site, all ads and photo ads are at no charge* (see exclusions below). All existing ads at the time of such a change over would also remain free for as long as you wanted to keep them on the site. Text ads for finders and owners will continue to always be at no charge. Found photo/text ads will always continue to be free for pet finders also.

*Ads that do have charges
Please note that there is a charge for our e-memorial section, the rates are clearly stated in that section, our Pets for Sale / Breeders Directory and our Pet Services Directory are also all paid commercial sections.
