Carolyn Ann Aish
New Zealand writer Carolyn Ann Aish has so far published four in a series of 10 childrens books about Max and Rastus.

At the beginning of 1998, Max Corkill and his loved cat, Rastus, were tragically killed. Carolynıs husband, Pastor Wally Aish, officiated at the funeral. After this, Beryl Sutton, (Max Corkillıs sister), and a fan of Carolynıs books, asked Carolyn to write story books about Rastus and Max. "Write something for the children" Beryl requested.

With Berylıs help and encouragement, the first book in the series: The Nine Lives of Rastus, was launched in December 1998. Designed for small children, each is a
true story written in rhyme with a message for children.

"The book "Ride Rastus Ride", is about how Rastus learned to ride on a motorcycle and affirms the fact that if we really want to do something badly enough, we can!"
says author Carolyn Ann Aish.

A percentage of the profits goes to "Creeklands Children's Camps" sponsored by Liberty Baptist Church, in Inglewood. The Sutton family (particularly Beryl, Max's
sister), wanted to support the children's camps. However, some of the funds from the books have also gone to New Plymouth's RNZSPCA.

The Mainland Motorcycle Club
The Mainland Motorcycle Club has been selling Max and Rastus badges and
memorabilia. "We hope to sell a lot of these goodies and make a nice amount for the RNZSPCA. This is a not for profit project. The Mainland Motorcycle Club is only doing this to keep their memory alive." says organiser David Bailey.

News from David
"Well next Jan 20th 2004 it will be 6 years since we lost Max, Gaynor and Rastus. I have just given the Canterbury RSPCA $1,000 from the sale of the "In Remembrance of Max and Rastus Appeal" badges. The Canterbury RSPCA send me their monthly newsletter and in it was a wish list.

David Bailey, Mainland Motorcycle Club
They were wanting a "Digital Camera" so that when they have to take photographic
evidence for a prosecution ( sadly with Conventional Cameras they could not see the
prints till they were developed and sometimes with disappointing results ) So I have
given them enough money for 2 Digital Cameras for their inspectors use.

Kim I hope you can help me with my new plan and that is help spread the word about
these badges.  So that other SPCA's around New Zealand can also get Digital
Cameras.

During International Animal Week on October the 2nd 1999 the Mainland
Motorcycle Club gave the Canterbury branch of RNZSPCA a cheque for $3500
from the sale of the badges."

The badges (see left) are for sale at $15.00 plus postage (please include a self
addressed envelope) $10.00 from each badge sold will go the SPCA. Click to go to

In September 2002 David Bailey, appeal organiser for the "In Remembrance of Max
and Rastus Appeal" contacted petsonthenet.co.nz for assistance with the appeal as
the fifth anniversary of their tragic deaths was fast approaching...

Director Kim Buchanan says "I always had a very soft spot for Max and Rastus and immediately offered to create a permanent place within petsonthenet.co.nz as a
tribute. Finally in February 2003 the tribute site has been launched. Pets on the Net
is proud to support the continuation of Max and Rastus's memory by providing this
site for all their friends and fans throughout the world"
