Blue Point Birman
Seal Point Birman
NEW! Here are
Bonnie, a Blue Point Birman female and also Sari, a
Seal Point Birman female. Birmans are friendly,
easy-going cats with an almost dog-like devotion,
yet they manage to keep a slight air of aloofness.
They often bond to just one person in the household
and show that person extreme affection and are quite
vocal in his/her company. They communicate with
their bodies more than their voices and use their
hindquarters to declare affection. Birmans are
suitable for both the young family and the elderly. They
like to be near you, happy in your company and
require moderate grooming.

Adorabella).

Devon
Rex (Devons)
|
Devon
Rex - Character plus !!!!
Devons
rarely sit upon a windowsill looking elegant or
bored. Devons are seldom elegant and never bored (or
boring). They sit
upon your shoulders or they lie across the back of
your neck and investigate your ear. They lie in
stacks like a pile of soft toys in front of heat
vents, or pile one upon another until they lay six
deep in a cat bed designed for one or two.
Devons
like dogs will follow you from room to room, their
tails wagging in anticipation. They chat with little
chirrups, chortles and trills, but their purring may
drown out their other conversation.
Devons love to retrieve, and often seem to be
fascinated by water, many actually getting into the
shower or even the bath with their families.
They
are quickly and easily bathed, many people with
allergies to cats discover that they can live
comfortably and intimately with a Devon Rex. The
absence of cat hair in the air, on the pillows and
on furniture is a definite plus to allergy
sufferers.
They
make superb bed warmers, and they do not go cold in
the night!
Devons
are very sociable cats; they want to be with you,
preferably on you and doing what you are doing. They
have a way of weaselling their way into everyone’s
hearts, people and other pets alike, and specialise
in winning over any non-believers!

Devons, Judy Dickie of Wisecracks)

Mitzi and
Ellie
Grey Tabby
domestic short hair cat and
Grey tabby and white domestic shorthair cat...
Ellie (the
smaller of the two in the picture) was adopted
from the SPCA Mangere at 11 weeks old. She
is very friendly and affectionate (sometimes too
friendly). She is a DSH (Domestic Short
Hair) Grey Tabby with White with golden eyes and a
slender build. Excellent climber.... watch
out for your curtains.
Mitzi (the larger of
the two in the picture with the red collar) was
bought from Jansens pet store in Mt Eden at about
10 weeks old. She is a Grey Tabby (no white)
with green eyes, who is not very friendly towards
people other than us. Only affectionate
when she wants something!
Both are very good
with dogs. Unknown about children as we do not
have any ourselves.

Norwegian
Forest Cat
|
(information provided to petsonthenet.co.nz with permission from the NFC
Breeders of Australia website; copyright held by contributor)
Like a Mediaeval aristocrat, the
Norwegian Forest Cat is gentle yet aloof, dignified but with a
great sense of humour and hardy enough to withstand the worst
snowstorms.
The name ‘Forest Cat’ is a
direct translation of the Norse name ‘Skogkatt’. The skogkatt
was believed to be loved by the goddess Freya, and so was honoured
by the ancient Norse. Fair haired & blue eyed, Freya is the
goddess of love and fertility. She is in charge of the fields and
crops, and often rides in a chariot drawn by two huge cats, though
when going to war her chariot is drawn by her boar, the
gold-bristled Hildisvini. Freya is often depicted with her beloved
skogkatts nearby. The Norse folk would placed pans of milk in
their cornfields for her cats to gain her favour and protection
for their crops.
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a large
semi-longhair breed that evolved naturally in the forests of
Scandinavia. Because humans had no hand in the development of this
breed it is hardy and well adapted to a tough life outdoors. In
winter plumage they proudly display a full mane and huge fluffy
tail. They possess a stunning double coat: soft, dense underfur
keeps them warm, while a waterproof outer layer of long guardhairs
protects them from the elements. In spring, they lose most of
their winter coat, and are left with only their magnificent tail
plumage for the summer.
As a breed that developed deep in
the Scandinavian forest they are hardy and self-reliant, requiring
little grooming. During spring shedding a twice-weekly brush will
help prevent hairballs, and your cat will thank you for helping to
get rid of that hot coat!
In countries where they can roam
freely outdoors (such as their native Scandinavia) they are known
for climbing down trees headfirst. They are also often seen
quietly fishing on the banks of streams.
While the Norwegian developed as
forest hunters, they make excellent indoor pets, being
quiet-tempered, affectionate and gentle. Norwegians are
mischievous and love a good joke, but are exceptionally willing to
please, and are easy to train. The do love to climb so a cat-tree
is a must if you like your drapes!
Norwegians bond readily to those in
their household, and are particularly loyal, though usually quite
friendly with strangers. They love to be loved, but don’t tend
to be lap cats; they would rather lay across the back of your
chair or somewhere nearby.
