Animal Control in the New Auckland Council
"On 1 November 2010, the seven territorial councils in the Auckland region were amalgamated to form the Auckland Council.

The impact of the transition to the Auckland Council on dog owners in the Auckland region will be minimal.  It will be business as usual for all dog control matters.

There will be no interruption to existing dog control services.  For example, animal shelters will all be in the same locations and dog control officers will continue to be available to respond to situations when they arise.

All dog tags issued for dogs registered from 1 July 2010 for the 2010/2011 registration year will be valid until they expire on 30 June 2011.

Although there will be one Council, the existing dog policies and dog bylaws for each of the existing districts and cities will remain in place until they are able to be reviewed by the new Council.  That review will include well publicised consultation with the public.  What this means is that on 1 November the existing rules will continue to apply to you.

There will be no change to off leash areas, dog exercise areas, beach access rules for dogs and the number of dogs allowed without permit on property".(source)
