UPDATE: I just wanted to let you know that Max has been successfully rehomed to a wonderful family in Masterton. Your website was a great tool to help me find his new family. I am really grateful, and will recommend this website to others.

Max came to us two years ago because his previous owners had no secure fencing for him. It was not intended to be a permanent arrangement. They have been unable to take him back.
For the most part he is a very loving, friendly, sociable dog who mixes very well with people and other dogs. He enjoys being part of a pack,[I have two other dogs]. He understands basic commands such as sit and wait and is polite at mealtimes.
However, Max is a very energetic dog who requires an owner who is skilful in handling dogs and understanding their needs.He is not suitable for beginners!
Max loves to work and would spend all day hunting mice if he could!
The reason we need to rehome Max is threefold;
1. Our four elderly cats no longer come into the house since Max arrived. He does not chase them if I command but would take the opportunity if I wasn't there. I feel I must put my cats needs first.
2. Max dislikes boundaries.Although we have a fully fenced section, we are rural and he won't turn down an opportunity to escape and run off. Although he always returns, he often refuses to be recalled. He runs onto the road and I fear for his safety.
3. I am not as young as I was and do not have the energy to meet all his needs.
Max does not chase cats or hens as long as they don't come into his yard area. He ignores them on his escapades.
Max barks sometimes, usually when he is excited or wants attention. I do not regard it a problem.
I think Max deserves a better life than I can offer him. I love him dearly and hope that the right place for him is waiting.

I can be contacted on 06 3484 546 to discuss Max further. We have very sporadic email, so prefer to speak by phone.
