Description

HANK
WHAT IS CO-OWNERSHIP OR JOINT OWNERSHIP?
Its where rescues get bogged down with unhomeable cats, which then reduce the chances for the rescuer to help other cats.

One such cat is HANK.
Living on the streets for an unknown amount of years, perhaps lost, perhaps abandoned, but survived because we put food down in the evenings for another cat which he "stole". But on seeing him during the daytime several we were disturbed to see his ear was rotting. He had no collar and no microchip number so the only thing to be done was to take him off the street and get him to the vet. $250 later he now ony has a stump for an ear.

We want to believe we have taken all the cancer away by removing the ear. But, one always has to be vigilant and keep an eye on people and animals who have had cancer. So Hank is not "adoptable" in the first sence. However, he is a lovely boy, sweet and gentle and a big boy and he may give someone years of pleasure, perhaps someone who cannot commit entirely to having a cat - someone who is saving to go overseas, someone who also has an illness that makes it too worrying to "own" a cat. Hank could be sharing his life with someone who misses having a furry companion.

So the way it would work is this: The co or joint owner would provide food, water, warmth, love, and flea/worm treatments. And if they can afford it, would give hank yearly vaccinations.
We would support Hank's future care relating to his previously cancerous ear. For instance we could agree on a 3 or 6 month check up at the vet to stay on top of his health. In fact its possible he could live many more years in good health as long as we keep an eye on him.
For this reason he needs to live near Te Aroha so he can visit our vet.

And finally, if the co owner can no longer keep Hank, then he comes back to us. But at least for some time he will have his own home, his own cat space and be with someone who has lots of time for him.
We need him to be living in a safe environment - perhaps even an indoor life - sometimes people/children can be quite cruel to animals who have disabilities. So a country home may be ideal.

Please give it some thought, if you want to just have a chat please call or text 0223 808 366 or email preciouscargoplus@gmail.com
